Food, Social and Ceremonial Communial License:
As a result of the Sparrow Decision (R. V. Sparrow, [1990] 1 S.C.R. 1075) Federal legislation provided aboriginal persons protection and harvest priority of fish resources after conservation levels were met. The harvested fish must be used for food, social or ceremonial (FSC) purposes, with no commercial activity (selling for profit), traded or bartered to be done. Every year the Department of Fisheries and Oceans issues FSC communial licences to the Community.
